Sharpening with the High Pass filter

- [Instructor] In this movie, I'll demonstrate yet another method to sharpen an image, and that's used in the High Pass filter. And, the advantages of High Pass are that, once you get used to it, it's very simple, you have just one numerical option, and then you balance the effect using a blend mode. And then, secondly, it naturally avoids clipping, which is why it tends to be my go-to method for sharpening portrait shots, even if that portrait happens to be of an octopus. Alright, so, we're going to compare its behavior to Unsharp Mask, because that's the most similar filter. So, the first thing I'm going to to do is double-click on the background. I'll just go ahead and name this guy, octopus. And then, I'll right-click inside the image window with the rectangular marquee tool, and choose Convert to Smart Object. Alright, now I'm going to make a copy of that layer, just by pressing Control + J, or Command + J on a Mac, and I'll turn that copy off for the moment. Alright, now I'll…
