- [Instructor] Three of the most commonly used filters in Photoshop are the Unsharp Mask, Smart Sharpen and High Pass filters. Now they're all used to help prepare images to look their best when they're printed or viewed on screen. We're going to take a look at all three of these filters to see when we might want to use one over another. So to do this in a nondestructive manner, I'm first going to convert my background into a smart object. I'll just right click and use the context sensitive menus to convert to smart object. Then to get an accurate preview, I'll want to zoom to 100%. So I'll use command one on Mac, control one on windows. Then from the filter menu, I will choose sharpen and we'll start with Unsharp Mask. So sharpening is actually a trick that we use to fool our eye into thinking that the image is sharper by increasing the edge contrast.
