Shutter speed and ambient light

- [Instructor] In this, our third movie on the topic of exposure and how it relates to underwater macro photography, we'll be taking a look at shutter speed and its effect on ambient light infiltration. The idea is that sometimes you want ambient light in your scene and most of the time, frankly, you don't. Recall that ambient light, and by that I mean sunlight, gets filtered at depth, so you just go down a few feet and you end up loosing various wave lengths, starting with red and then orange and then yellow. That pretty much happens in the first five to ten feet down, and then, at scuba depths, you're left with nothing more than greens and blues. So, in other words, ambient light ends up turning things a kind of greenish blue color. - [Instructor] So the way we control the amount of ambient light in our image is with shutter speed. Using faster shutter speeds is going to reduce the amount of ambient influence on the image. Meanwhile, using slower shutter speeds may introduce shake…
