Shutter speed

- [Instructor] In this movie we're going to discuss shutter speed, which controls the length of time, as measured in seconds or fractions of a second, that the image sensor is exposed to all light passing through the aperture. And to make sense of that, I'll turn it over to Hugrin. - [Hurgin] So shutter speed is going to determine the ambient light exposure. In other words, the brightness of the background when we're working with strobes, because as you recall from our previous movie on strobes, that strobe light is only going to light the foreground subject. It's not quite going to reach the background, which is mostly just going to be lit by ambient light. So shutter speed is also going to control the foreground exposure when working with continuous light. And this is something we're going to make clear in future movies. - [Narrator] Now just as with aperture, shutter speed is measured in stops. And those stops look a little something like this.
