Smart Filter essentials
- [Instructor] Before we begin to work with smart filters in Photoshop, I want to take a quick moment to highlight a few smart filter essentials. And to do that, I'll be referring to this slide or graphic that we have here on screen. Well first and foremost, I want to highlight that when you create a smart filter, what you can see over here in our layers panel is that the smart filter will appear underneath the layer. This will appear a little bit differently than a normal layer. Then below that, you'll have the filter listed, and a button which you can use in order to change blending mode, or opacity. We'll talk more about that later, but for now, you want to start to turn your attention towards the layers panel as you work with smart filters. The next thing that I want to highlight has to do with what makes a smart filter smart. Why are they smart, as opposed to regular filters? Well the main reason is they allow you to work non-destructively. In other words, you can always undo anything that you've done. This allows you to increase your flexibility and creativity, test out different ideas, and of course this can allow you to fine-tune adjustments as well. Alright, well now that we've been introduced to the smart filter essentials, let's dive right in and take a look at how we can apply and work with smart filters, and let's do that in the next movie.
