Smoothing a selection
- Generally speaking, when you create a selection and then actually use that selection as the basis of, for example, a targeted adjustment, you're going to need to smooth out that selection in some respect. For example, you would likely feather the selection or more likely perhaps, is to feather the layer mask that you're using as the basis of a targeted adjustment based on the selection you originally created. In some cases, though, you might want to smooth out a selection edge so it's not so jagged. We can take a look at an example, mostly just to illustrate the concept because again, in most cases, you're not likely to need the smooth command, at least with photographic images, but it's still worth knowing that it is available. I'll go ahead and create a selection of the sky in this case, for example. And then if I zoom in on the edge of that selection, you'll see that it's not especially smooth.
