Soft Light, Overlay, and Hard Mix
- In this movie I'll show you how you can use a couple of contrast blend modes, specifically soft, light and overlay in order to selectively increase the contrast of an alpha channel, and a great thing about both soft light and overlay is that when you paint with black they protect the white pixels and when you paint with white they protect the black pixels. So because this is another major operation, I'm gonna create a copy of this alpha channel by dragging and dropping it onto the little page icon and as I drop I'll press the alt key or the option key on the Mac to force the display of the duplicate channel dialogue box and I'll just go ahead and call this guy "hood" and I'll click OK, all right now this channel happens to contain an awful lot of white pixels but it doesn't contain many black pixels, so I want you to see what happens when I go up to the edit menu and choose the fill command in order to bring up the fill dialogue box and I'm gonna change my contents option here to…
