Starting a path outline with an ellipse

- [Instructor] In this movie we'll draw an accurate path outline around this kid's face starting with a very basic ellipse. So the first thing you want to do is click below the path here inside the paths panel to turn it off. And then, click and hold on the rectangle tool icon to bring up the shape tool fly out menu and select the ellipse tool. Next, you want to go up here to the far left side of the options bar, and notice this option that reads shape. If you leave it set to shape, then you'll draw a new shape layer, which is not what we want. Instead, you want to click and hold on this option and select path. Not pixels which will draw a bunch of flat pixels all over this kid's face, but rather path to create a new path outline. So go ahead and select the option. You'll know you have the right setting because your fill and stroke options disappear, at which point just go ahead and draw an ellipse here inside the image widow, and you'll create a new elliptical path outline here…
