Strobe distance rule

- [Instructor] We're going to wrap things up with a look at the strobe distance rule as it specifically applies to underwater macro photography. And so what we're trying to do here is compensate for the distance between the camera and your subject. - [Instructor] So in general we want to be as close as possible to our subject. The reason being is that as the light passes from our strobe, hits the subject, and then travels back to the camera, it's going to lose color and contrast. So as we can see looking at this example of a white V octopus, that octopus is pretty far away from us right now. And you can tell the image lacks a lot of color and contrast. The best solution to this is to get closer and as we can see from here on the right as we've gotten closer to that octopus our strobes have become more effective and we've got better color and contrast. But again if getting closer is not an option, then we can adjust the position of our strobes to compensate for that distance. -…
