Strobes vs. LED torches

- [Deke] All right, in this chapter we'll explore our artificial lighting options so that we can see the wonderful colors that are at work underwater, reds, oranges, yellows, instead of just a bunch of greens and blues. And we're going to start things off here by looking at pros and cons associated with the two lighting sources which are strobes and LED torches, and then we'll talk about deployment, meaning ways to power our light sources. So, we're going to start things off here by examining what exactly is a strobe and that's a question that I'm going to pose to you, Hergen. - [Hergen] Well, I would say that a strobe is a dedicated depth-rated and waterproof flash, so in other words, it's a flash just like you use in a studio or shooting landscape photography or portrait photography. It just happens to be manufactured, purpose-made to be taken underwater so we can bring back those reds, yellows, and oranges you were talking about to our underwater photos.
