Textures are overlays

- [Narrator] Textures are overlayed over the actual file. Unlike backgrounds where the idea is to put the image on something and create a frame around it, a texture is supposed to create a fanciful, dream-like, perhaps painterly effect. The impact of this effect is really unpredictable. In other words, you don't know what's gonna happen until you try. So I'd like to show you an example. Here's a picture of San Francisco's Ferry Building with the sun setting taken with a fairly long telephoto lens and I was moderately okay with the photo but it looked to be like something that I could really improve. So I went to my texture libraries and right here you'll see Florabella Textures II. And the first texture I'm going to try with this one is called Artiste so here's the way Artiste looks, you can see it up close. And I'm gonna open it up in Photoshop.
