Turning a scanned swatch into a pattern, part 1

- [Instructor] Unless you're a textile designer, you're probably not creating many of your own patterns. It's more likely that you have a swatch of fabric that you're gonna need to use to fill an illustration. So let's talk about how to put an existing fabric swatch into repeat. First of all, before you scan your fabric, it's really important to press it and block it out as much as possible. Putting in a wrinkled piece of fabric, or something that's really distorted is gonna make your life a lot more difficult. That's the first step. When you scan in your image, you want to make sure that you do it in color and at least a resolution of 300 dpi so that you have a nice, clean, detailed scan. So, here I've got a stripe, and you can see it's a little bit skewed, so let's talk about how to straighten this out so we can turn it into a seamless repeat.
