Understanding the histogram
- [Instructor] We need to take a moment to find out why the histogram is important and what we can learn from it when we're working with our images in Photoshop. If the histogram panel isn't showing, just use the Window menu and then choose histogram. There are a lot of different options that you can choose from by using the fly out. I've changed this from compact view to expanded view so it's a little larger. There's also an all channels view and in fact, you can even show those channels in color, like I have selected here, but for now, I'll go back to expanded view. So there's no such thing as a right or wrong histogram. The histogram is just a visual representation of the tonal values on the image, and it starts with the blacks on the left, and then it would go through your midtones and ending up with your whites on the right side.
