- All right. Now, I'll take you on a tour of two features that go to the very heart of using Photoshop and those are selections and layers. And so, notice that we have this composition that contains a total of eight donuts, all set against this blue tabletop. And every single one of these photographic images comes to us from the dreamstime image library, about which you can learn more and get some great deals at dreamstime.com/deke. Now, even though I spent a fair amount of time arranging each donut independently, this is a flat image file. And I know that's the case just by taking a look at the title tab. Notice that the file name ends with a three character extension JPG, which indicates that we have a JPEG file. Now, JPEGs are very commonly used for photographic image files, and that's because they're relatively small, thanks to the nature of JPEG compression and a single file may contain as many as 16.8 distinct…
