Using the Overlay and Soft Light modes

- [Teacher] In this movie, I'll show you a few highly practical applications of the contrast modes. And for the sake of demonstration, I'll stick with the most subtle of the modes, which are overlay and soft light. Alright let's say that I want to increase the contrast of this specific composition. Then I would make sure that the top layer in the stack is selected and then I'll go up to the window menu and choose the adjustments command to bring up the adjustments panel. Now the thing to bear in mind about all the contrast modes is that everyone of them increases the saturation of the colors inside your image. And so what we're going to do here is employ a dummy adjustment layer and that adjustment layer, because of that saturation issue, should be vibrant. So go ahead and ALT or option click on the vibrance icon which is the one that looks like a V in the upper right corner and let's just go ahead and call this layer contrast and click okay.
