Using Photoshop tool shortcuts

- [Man] This one is really just an efficiency thing for me. The idea of moving my mouse to select every single tool I want to use is just a productivity killer. So I like to take advantage of the tool shortcuts in Photoshop I don't expect you to memorize the shortcut just the ones that you use most often. So let me show you how. So here I am in Photoshop, and what I want to show you is that as you come over here to the Tools panel, when you hover over a tool, You'll notice that now there's actually like a little movie that you're seeing for every single tool that we're using. In previous versions of Photoshop, instead of that little movie, but next to the name of the tool, similar to what you're seeing here - you see it says Move tool with the letter V after it. is access that tool using that shortcut without having to go over to the Tools panel to access it. So this is how this works. Let's say I want to create a selection, maybe a rectangular selection, using the Marquee tool. Well, you'll notice if you keep your eye on the toolbar to the left, when I press the letter M on my keyboard, it'll access that Marquee tool. So now I can click and drag, and create my selection, and I never left my mouse. Or I never left the keyboard. Cause I didn't have to go over to that Tools panel to select it. Now if I wanted to pick up a color, right? I could press the I key on my keyboard, and that's going to access the Eyedropper tool. If I want to access the Brush tool, I press the letter B. And if I want to access the Rubber Stamp tool, I press the letter S. OK? expect you to memorize these shortcuts. The point is that instead of me having to go over and select the tool every time, I can just access it so quickly using the keyboard shortcut. Now, there are some cases - I'm going to go ahead and deselect this right now - where you'll notice like, if I click and hold on the Marquee key, there are multiple tools under there. and elliptical Marquee tools are the shortcut letter M. OK? Let's look at another example. Let's go to the Pen tool. the Pen, Freeform Pen, and Curvature tool are all the letter P. Well, how do you access them if they're all the same? Well here's how this works. For example if I press the letter P on my keyboard, it accesses the Pen tool. If I want to get to tools within that tool, I can simply hold down the shift key and press the letter P, and that will cycle through all of those tools that are underneath that tool, or within that tool. It's a really, you know, convenient and easy way for you to access that. If I wanted to crop this image, I can press the C key. That activates my Crop tool, and now if I wanted to Simply press the Enter key on my keyboard and now I've cropped that image. OK? So a lot of ways that you can access this. And so the way I like to explain this to people is, And so the way I like to explain this to people is, if you find yourself always going to a particular tool, if you find yourself always going to a particular tool, figure out what the shortcut is. figure out what the shortcut is. Right? So now after I've cropped this image, Right? So now after I've cropped this image, if I want to go back to the Move tool, if I want to go back to the Move tool, I just press the letter V and now I'm back to my Move tool I just press the letter V and now I'm back to my Move tool where I can keep on working. where I can keep on working. Again, don't memorize all these shortcuts, Again, don't memorize all these shortcuts, but if you find yourself always reaching for the same tool, but if you find yourself always reaching for the same tool, that's a pretty good indication that's a pretty good indication that you should learn that tool's shortcut. that you should learn that tool's shortcut.
