Using Quick Mask mode

Sometimes when working with a Photoshop selection it's very difficult to visualize the selection. That's because the animated dotted line isn't easy to see. We refer to this as the marching ants, and sometimes it's hard to tell exactly what is and isn't selected. But if you click right here, or press the Q key you'll enter quick mask mode. This will visualize the mask. If you double click you can actually change the properties here to see the selected areas, and now it reverses it, or the masked areas. In this case I see that there's some wanted areas and unwanted areas. So, I'll switch the paintbrush tool by pressing B, and we can now paint with our default colors. Notice, if I paint I add or subtract to the mask. I can use a larger brush here to remove. What we want to do is remove any unwanted areas from the mask. And if we zoom in it's easier to see what is and isn't selected. For example, I see a small hairline…
