Using Quick Mask mode
- Generally speaking, when I'm working on creating a selection, I will use the selection tools in Photoshop of course, sometimes one of the other commands, and then for modifying that selection, I'll typically create a layer mask for my targeted adjustment for example on an adjustment layer and then further refinements will be done on that layer mask. But there's also an option to have the same basic type of editing. With a layer mask, we would usually be painting with black or white for example to define which areas are not effected versus are effected by an adjustment layer, but with a selection, we're usually tracing around a selection edge if we're adding to or subtracting from a selection. But we can also use that same basic panting approach by employing quick mask mode and in fact, some photographers simply prefer the use of quick mask mode for fine tuning their selections before using those selections as the basis of a layer mask.
