Using a gradient fill layer to add a color wash

- [Instructor] A really quick and easy way to add a color wash over an image is to add a new gradient fill layer. So from the Layers menu, I'll choose New Fill Layer, and then Gradient, or I could add it by using the Layers panel. But if I do, I need to hold down the Option key before I select the Adjustment Layer icon and choose Gradient. Otherwise, I won't get the new layer dialog, and I won't be able to change the blend mode to color. So I'll select Color, click OK, and that will bring up the gradient fill. Now, depending on your foreground and background colors, you might get different results. But we can use the dropdown arrow here and we can choose from many of the different presets that ship with Photoshop. So I'm going to start with just this preset here, it's just blue to blue.
