What is an adjustment layer and when should you use one?

- To start things off, you might be asking yourself, what is an adjustment layer? And when should I use it? Well, adjustment layers are like regular adjustments in Photoshop. However, they have an important distinction. They're non-destructive, which means you can modify them at any point in time or even remove them. The adjustments are applied to their own layer, which makes it easy to revisit the effect to refine it or take it in a whole new direction. Let's take a look at an example. In this image, I'm using two adjustment layers to modify this aircraft. This is a photo from the National Air and Space museum. You'll notice that the original aircraft was this rich golden color. However, I decided to change that. By using an adjustment layer, I'm able to first apply a curves adjustment. Curves are quite useful for modifying the exposure of an image.
