When should I add clarity?

- Clarity is an adjustment that not enough people use and many of the people who do use it, overuse it. Let me show you how to balance out clarity to bring in the right amount of detail without it looking fake. You'll find clarity most useful when working with the raw file. Let's select both images here and click the auto button so it does an initial adjustment. Now, we'll start with the first image. If we look at this here and we've got clipping turned on, we definitely see an improvement in the dynamic range, but if I scroll down below the general toning controls you'll see texture clarity and de haze. Clarity is going to further emphasize the differences there in the mid tones, adding selective contrast. You'll notice as we push this out, areas become better defined but we also start to see some clipping there in the highlights, so if you push that to a higher value, you may need to come back and tweak your highlights or…
