- In the name of getting the ball rolling as quickly as possible, we're going to start with some of my favorite features in all of Photoshop, the advanced selection tools. First, we will take a look at a command called color range. The color range command allows you to select elements in an image by clicking and shift clicking, much as if you were using the magic wand tool, which you may remember from chapter nine of the fundamentals course. The difference is that instead of delivering choppy edges that you have to then soften in a separate step, the color range command generates gradual transitions that blend organically into the image. Plus, it let's you make dynamic adjustments and it shows you a preview of what it's up to. As I'm fond of saying, color range is the magic wand on steroids.
