The many, many ways to save

- Saving your work may seem like a simple matter of choosing the save command, which is usually the way it works in other programs. But if you haven't figured it out yet, Photoshop is not like other programs. In fact, one of Photoshop's claims to fame is its support for every image file format ever invented. You can save to formats that haven't been used since I was a kid. You can save an MRI scan as a three-dimensional DICOM file that will amaze even your surgeon. You can even save a Pixar file. Now, typically, you don't want to do any of those things. But you do want to know the ins and outs of four key file formats that are the standards of the print, interactive, and online industries. These are TIF, PNG, JPEG and Photoshop's native file format, PSD, the last of which is how you save layers. Plus, Photoshop includes an auto save feature that will recover your work in the event of a crash. Watch the following movies and you'll know everything.
