The other 3-channel mode: Lab - Photoshop Tutorial
From the course: Photoshop: Channels and Masks
The other 3-channel mode: Lab
- [Instructor] In this movie we'll take a brief look at the other three channel color space inside Photoshop and that is Lab. Now I should tell that there is some conjecture as to how you pronounce that color space Lab. Some people call it L-A-B, pronouncing each and every letter independently. I say Lab because, A as I understand it that's what most people say and B it's not strictly speaking in acronym the way RGB is. Rather L stands for either luminance or lightness depending on who you talk to and A and B are arbitrary designations given to perpendicular color axis and I'll show you what that means in just a moment. All right so here we are looking at that image subject to our custom black and white adjustment. I'm gonna click on the RGB composite up here at the top of the channels panel and the reason that we're seeing the colors is because that custom B and W adjustment layer is turned off. All right now converting from RGB to Lab both is and is not a destructive modification…
