The remarkable "Fill Opacity Eight"

- In this movie I'll introduce you to what I call the Fill Opacity Eight, which are eight blend modes that are effected differently by the fill value in the upper-right region of the layers panel, then they are by the opacity value. And in each and every case, reducing the fill value produces a better effect. Let's start things off by reviewing why the fill value exists in the first place. Notice that I have this text, that is set to the screen blend mode, so that it's brightening the layers in the background. I also have a couple of layer effects, inner shadow and drop shadow, that are currently turned off. To turn them on, all I have to do is click in front of the word effects and I end up with this carved effect as you see here. Now let's say I want to make my letters more translucent. If I were to press the 2 key, while one of my selection tools is active, in the upper portion of the tool box, then I would reduce the opacity value to 20 percent. But that not only reduces the…
