Creating a DIY backdrop for a studio-look baby portrait

- Even when planning a lifestyle session in someone's home, I still bring a fair amount of equipment with me. These are all things that you can purchase, or create on your own, for your own home, or studio, or travel, if you go on-site like I do. I do bring a backdrop stand with me for newborn sessions. It can be as simple as two stands with a boom across, anything that can really clip fabric too. I brought with me today, a few different stretchy fabrics, as well as a textured blanket. You don't need anything fancy, as long as it has a little texture, and neutral color, so it doesn't bounce back color onto the baby, you're set to go. You'll also need a platform, or a safe location for the baby during a backdrop shoot. You can use a beanbag if you bring one with, and in this case, they had a couch that turned around, which can easily be used. You can also use an ottoman, or a crib mattress, which worked just as well. When photographing a newborn up close, you might be the closest…
