- Developing your style definitely takes time and a lot of soul searching. You're gonna try things that don't work out and you'll go down the wrong path once or twice but that's totally fine. Failure and creativity go hand in hand. It's all part of the process. Find ways to insert your tastes, style, interests and strengths as you begin practicing. To give you an example, I tend to dress my subjects in a way that I would dress myself. The choices of clothes, colors, those types of things, it's not really a reflection of who I think that person is or how they would dress but it's something that is natural to me. I also tend to pose my subjects in a way that I feel. It's not necessarily a consideration of how I think they would pose and something that I tell people all the time is that my work is actually more about me than the people I'm photographing.
