How to get great light

- When there's great light in a photograph, a person can really look their best. We can help them to portray a mood or even some drama using the shadows and highlights in the picture to help them exude their best self toward the camera. However, sometimes we've got distracting light, like the sun is very high and it's casting shadows under the eyebrows, we get raccoon eyes with dark circles under the eyebrows, and that's not very flattering. We can also end up with shiny spots, or funny shadows, speckled light through a tree. These are the things we want to avoid, and so right now I'd like to show you how I find great light in any situation. When we talk about light, especially great light, there are three qualities of light that we need to pay attention to. First is the direction of light, just where's it coming from? Is it high, is it low? Is it in front, is it behind? Generally we're gonna look for light that's coming from the side of our subjects. That's going to allow us to…
