What is Power BI?

- [Instructor] Power BI is a visual reporting software aimed at non-technical users. Let's break that down a bit. Power BI is a software that lets you drag and drop the visual you want onto the page and resize it. You can then drag and drop the data you want that visual to show onto the visual. You can add multiple visuals to a tab, and multiple tabs to a report, et voila, you have built a report. Power BI has some benefits over its competitors. First, the report is responsive, meaning it resizes automatically as you change the screen size. And second, the visuals cross-filter by default. That means when you click on a pie chart segment, the bar charts over on the other side of the report update automatically to filter or highlight the data. This is really powerful. It means your end users can filter the data visually. They don't need to find a filter panel, they don't have to have lots of drop-downs and checkboxes, and they don't have to work out whether the data represented in that pie chart is the same as this word over here in this checkbox. They just click and filter. It's highly intuitive. The other superpower that Power BI offers you is a wide range of ways to share your report. Power BI visuals can be shared to SharePoint, Teams, and Power Apps. Also, your users can subscribe to your report via Outlook. So they're sent an email every time the data changes, or once a day, or once a week, or whatever they want. And of course, you can publish to the web. That can be a Microsoft server, i.e. the Microsoft cloud or your company's own machines. And it's pretty flexible on how you publish as well. You can publish an entire report in one go or you can embed a visual or a tab in a webpage of your own.
