Create a blank or template based presentation

- [Instructor] Creating presentations is an important skill for the MOS exam. We'll learn how to create a blank presentation, a presentation based on a design template or a theme, and a presentation based on a template with content. I'll start out by launching PowerPoint. One of the ways you can do this is from the Start menu, and then just typing in PowerPoint, and launching the application. This is one of the ways to create a blank presentation. Notice the Blank Presentation option right in the center of the screen. I'll go ahead and double-click to create a blank presentation. You'll see that blank presentations always start out with a white background and black text, and it's easy to click in these text placeholders and begin entering the content you want in your presentation. We'll talk more about that in a later video. The second way to create a presentation is to use a design template or a theme. I can click on File at the top of the screen, choose New, then I'll start to see all of Microsoft's design templates or themes in the middle of the screen. In this example, I'll double-click on Berlin. You can see that that template downloads, and I'm ready to go. Again I've got a title slide, and I can start doing my typing and adding slides, and building my presentation. The third example is to create a presentation from a template that includes content, so in this example, we'll end up with more than one slide to start from. I'll click on File to start out, choose New, and then notice the suggested searches across the screen. Here I can choose from topics like Business or Education. I'll start by clicking on Business, and notice all of the business options that load. I'll double-click on the Business marketing presentation. After this presentation downloads, you can see the 11 slides down the left-hand side. It's easy to click into these and make your changes, or scrap a slide altogether. It's really yours to use from this point on. This simply jump-starts your presentation by giving you existing content to work from. Another way to use these content slides is to click File, New, and then use the search box. In this example I'll click in the search box and type in health. You can see that several presentations are generated from that keyword. I'll go ahead and double-click the first one, the Health and fitness presentation. As we look at the left-hand side, I can see I have 12 slides to click through and use. Again these are just a starting point, and I can build my presentation from here. So that's how to get started with creating a PowerPoint presentation.
