Applying depth-of-field blur in Photoshop

- Now, when people speak of depth of field, they're often talking about how far focus extends into a scene. More and more, people are shooting with shallower depth of field to push things like backdrops out of focus. This is particularly popular with more cinematic productions. Fortunately, we can actually apply the same techniques to our stills to push those out of focus with depth, so they work better in a chroma key situation. Let's start here with a simple image. What I want to do is select the area that should be in focus. Using my Quick Selection Tool here, I can start to click and drag through the scene, and it makes a basic selection. There we go. Now if it selects something you don't want, it's pretty easy to remove that. Just hold down the Option or Alt key, and click, and it will subtract. Let's just drag through. Subtract the tree there. Little bit of the rock. There we go. Not bad. And we'll just drag through the foreground here to pick this area up. Now if you want to…
