Audio levels

- [Narrator] Let's change some audio levels, shall we? Please go ahead and open the sequence named 4.2 levels. So now we go to the project panel, sequences, chapter four, and 4.2 levels, double click it, and of course it opens in the timeline. Now let's select all of the clips in the voiceover track. So zoom to fit, select these clips, let's change the type to dialogue, and now the very first choice that we have here in the essential sound panel is loudness. Go ahead and click on that section, and of course, it expands. To better see the difference, let me go ahead and make this track a little bit larger so that you can see the waveforms. Now, if I click on auto match, my levels will change and they will match each other. Let's go ahead and do that. The audio gets analyzed and is auto matched to a target loudness of minus 23 LUFS, which is the standard for broadcast, at least for most broadcast houses. You can see that the waveforms changed, they became a little bit shorter, meaning a little bit softer. We can do that with other types of audio as well. So we can select the clips of this second track that's the nat sound, we can choose ambience from here, we can go to loudness and automatch, and notice that this particular type of sound is going to have a target loudness of minus 30 LUFS. So quite a bit quieter than the voiceover. Let's go to the sound effects. We select those, change them to sound effects, go to loudness, automatch, and in here sound effects are a little bit louder than the ambient noise, so this is going to be auto matched to a target loudness of minus 21 LUFS. Finally the music, select it, give it a type of music, go to loudness, automatch and music is going to have a target loudness of minus 25 LUFS. Those are the default settings, and if you need to change it to be louder or softer like I suspect that the sound effects of my video will need to be softer, you can always go to the clip volume down here in the section and you can change the level to whatever you need to. Now, let's go ahead and play this. Let's start this program from the beginning. (upbeat music) - [Announcer] Construction drone mapping is Mid-Atlantic drone specialty. Our pilots have been flying. (drones engine roaring) We understand the needs of our clients and what they require from our services. Why choose Mid-Atlantic Drones? Because Mid-Atlantic Drones has extensive experience, flying construction sites gives it superior expertise and knowledge of actual working condition. - And that's pretty good. You saw me change the levels down here of the sound effects and of course the nat sound. Those were still a little bit too loud in the mix, so I actually opted to change them as they were playing because all of the clips in that particular track were selected, all of them were affected. Now, this is a heck of a lot easier and faster than doing it using the mixer. You could easily use this panel to do your mixing for you at least the beginning level set for your mixing. This was fast and above all, super easy.
