Color correction should be easy, right?
- If you ever spend time in a professional colorist suite, a professional colorist makes color correction and color grading tasks look very simple. With their hands on a control surface and their head on a swivel between monitors, a professional colorist can take even the longest program and color it very quickly. So what separates a professional colorist from, say, an editor who's just getting started with color, maybe like you? Well, a lot of editors that I talk to struggle with color because it's really hard. Color at its core is something that is difficult. I just wanna be clear about that. But, color shouldn't be hard, right? I mean, cause on its surface it's really three separate tasks. The first task of any color correction activity is to evaluate what's going on with that shot. Is it bright? Is it dark? Is it too red? Is it too blue? That seems like a pretty easy task that you can accomplish with your eyes, right?
