- If you need to create complex Depth Mattes or relatively complex blurring effects, Photoshop has a whole sweet of tools called the Blur Lab that let's you use multiple photo realistic blurs to get great results. I've opened up a photo here and I'm just going to duplicate it to work on a second copy for blurring. Now, under the filter menu, you'll see Blur Gallery. And this gives you access to several different filters. Some versions refer to this as blur lab. Let's start here with the Field Blur. And I like this option because it allows me to put pins in the shot. For example, I can add some pins here to the trees specifying that those should be blurred. Then, I can add pins further away and reduce the blurriness for the background so it's less blurred. There we go. And then, even further back, where we start to get to the infinity point, I can take the blur all the way down so that area is in focus. Which is really pretty amazing how you can dial these in like little gravity wells.…
