EQ

- EQ, or equalizer, what is it? An EQ is an effect that we can use to affect certain frequencies of our clip and not others. Why use one? Well, it's because of overtones. Each sound, each musical note has a pitch which is the fundamental frequency. And it has then overtones, which are tones or frequencies that are generated from the main one. It's where our musical scale comes from. By adjusting these frequencies we can adjust the tone of a recording. Now, I should add here that you can't completely change the tone of a recording, all you can do is work with what was recorded already. But you can adjust some things, including getting rid of unwanted frequency or frequencies, especially if they're noise. Other than cleaning up audio you'll see that the changes that we make using an EQ are usually very light, very small. However, having said that it does really help the quality of many recordings.
