- While After Effects is known for its 2D or two-and-a-half D work, it does actually support 3D environments and 3D lighting. Those lights can create colors and shadows and be quite useful. Let me show you how I use lights to improve my chroma key. I'll open up sequence 4.6 here called Lights, and I want to make a small change. If you look at this here, there's nothing wrong with this but it doesn't feel quite right. What I want to do is make the lighting match a little bit better. To start, I need to promote this to a 3D layer, and I can also turn the wall into a 3D layer. Let's go ahead and take a look here at 2 Views for a moment. And we'll just zoom this one out. Comma key will pull you back a little bit, and that's the active camera. And over here on the right, I'm looking at this from above, and what I want to do is press P for position and move the wall further away along the z axis, putting it behind my subject a bit, so it can cast a shadow.
