- Blend modes are often found in graphics programs and allow you to mix one layer with another. A blend mode is essentially taking parts of a layer and choosing how it combines with the next. You can make blend modes that affect the saturation, or the color, or the brightness. Premier supports these for video layers and they actually play in real time, in most cases. This opens up some really interesting possibilities. Let's take a look at a scene where the video is a bit overexposed, and you'll see the next instance where it looks fine. Well, this is pretty powerful - watch what we can do here. All I'm going to do is take the clip and hold down the option or alt key and drag a second copy above. This duplicates the clip and stacks it. Now, with that top clip selected, I'll go to the opacity controls, and you'll see blend modes. The first group is designed to darken, so choosing different blend modes, like multiply or color burn, can really add up the information. If we toggle that…
