Fixing underexposed footage

- While the blend mode works great for a shot that is overexposed, it can also do great things if you're dealing with an underexposed shot by adding in extra information. What we're going to do here is lift up some of the shadows. So, holding down the Option key, I'll drag a second copy on top. Now, with that top copy selected, I go to the Opacity controls and look at blending modes. Earlier, you learned about the Darken category, but you'll see that Lighten also does some good things. There's Screen, Color Dodge for intense colors and lightning, or Linear Dodge. I find, generally speaking, that Screen does a very nice job, and you can adjust the intensity by changing the opacity. If we toggle that off and on, you see a great lift. Now, if needed, you can continue to stack this. If you have a really dark shot or surveillance-type footage, you can actually stack this multiple times and continue to add up the information to really bring back details in the shadows.
