Getting a properly toned image

- Tone is really dealing with the exposure as well as contrast. And the goal with tone is that we have good dynamic range. A nice difference between the brightest area and the darkest area. And no details being crushed in between. Lets take a look at some of the toning controls. I'll open up this next sequence 2 3 and lets press the backslash key to see both clips. On the right I can see the properly toned shot and on the left there's the before. It's close but not quite right. Just seems a little dark. Well, I'm going to switch scopes here and go back to just the luma scope here and hide the RGB parade for a moment; this helps me judge the exposure. And what I see, is that the left side of the image is overall darker than the right side. Well, that lines up; more mountain, less mountain. Lets take a look here at the basic controls. And what I want to do is adjust the shadows a bit. You'll notice as we lift those up that the area comes from about here to here is getting boosted. So by…
