- Another area that's important to adjust is tone. Tone generally relates to the exposure of the image, but it's not just the mid-tones. It might be the white point and black point at the end of the spectrum. This helps with contrast issues. Let's take a look at the basic tone controls. I'll open up the next sequence here, 2.3. And have a look. Here the image is properly toned. Here's the original. You can see it runs a tad dark. Let's take a look at the waveform monitor for this and really see it. In this case, the mid-tones are floating around 50 to 60 which is okay. But the highlights, except for this little bright patch, read a little bit dark. Well, watch how the toning sliders come into play. We'll leave color alone for now with white balance and instead just focus on tone. To start is exposure. This pulls the entire shot up or down. And you'll see that everything in the middle is really moving, pulling up the mid-tones and the shadows or pulling down the highlights and the…
