Limitting

- When mastering our audio, especially for broadcast, we need to make sure that our audio levels do not go past a certain level. And that's where the limiter comes in. See our ears usually prefer louder audio. So limiters allow you to set a brick wall that the audio levels will not be able to pass. Of course, as we have seen before, we can add the limiter at the clip level and also at the track level. Please go ahead and open the sequence named 5.2 limiting. So sequences chapter five, 5.2 limiting. And now we're going to add a track effect. So we're going to go to Window, Audio track mixture, and we're going to add a track effect to this very first track, which is the voiceover audio right here. I'm going to make this a little bit taller so that we can see it better. Now let's go ahead and add a dynamics effect here. So amplitude and compression dynamics. And there you go. If we double-click here, we get the same interface that we saw in the previous movie, which is auto gate compressor, expander, and limiter. Now we are going to limit this. In here, I want you to notice that there is no option that says brick wall. Now, why is that important? Well, a lot of the limiters will have a control named Brick Wall Limit. What that means is that signal no matter what can never exceed the value that you put in for your maximum output level. So we can change the threshold here. Let's make it a little bit low. Let's make it say minus 20, and we're going to have not an attack, but a release instead, let's go ahead and play this and see what happens. - [Narrator] Construction Drone mapping is mid Atlantic drone specialty. Our pilots have been flying construction sites for many years. - [Instructor] So you can see that the limiter is being triggered quite a bit. We can change this value to a lower value, say a minus 10 or something like that. And let's play it again and see what happens. - [Narrator] We understand the needs of our clients and what they require from our services. Why choose Mid-Atlantic? - [Instructor] You see that the limiter is being triggered, but less than before, if we lower this even less to say a minus five or so, notice that it's going to be triggered a heck of a lot less. - [Narrator] Drones because Mid-Atlantic drones has extensive experience flying construction sites gives it superior exp-- - [Instructor] All right, let's go ahead and close this and get rid of this effect. And let's add one for the multi-band compressor, which is the same effect that saw in the previous movie. So amplitude and compression multi-band compressor, and now double click it. And it opens the interface. I like starting from one of the presets and I like broadcast. So all I'm going to do is change this to broadcast and play it. - [Narrator] Expertise and knowledge of actual working conditions and mission cont-- - So I don't like how it raises the gain a little bit too much. So I'm going to lower the game by say eight DBs. And now let's go ahead and play this again. - Assuring optimal production of deliverables, which surpass your expectations and requirements. This experts-- - [Instructor] And that's not too bad. I think I'm going to reduce the gain. One more DB. So minus nine. - Ts allows us to provide drone services in an efficient and-- - [Instructor] And that's actually pretty good. Now that is the compressor part and we can change the limiter in here. So let's go ahead and change this to the default values. In other words, no compression, and let's go directly to the limiter. Let's have the threshold be minus 10 or so. And let's change this value here so that the brick limiter works. We're going to have an attack a little bit longer than four. Let's make it five, which is the maximum, and let's play this and let's see what happens. - [Narrator] In a cost-effective manner improving your bottom line, regular drone flights for the purpose of surveying and mapping. - [Instructor] So that's pretty good, but I'm going to change the threshold to even less say a minus 20. - [Narrator] Allow consistent reports of progress and accuracy. Allowing comparison between missions. We specialize in getting the necessary - Now change the game. Permits to legally fly in the Washington DC flight restricted zone or DC freeze We plan your drone mapping flights, keeping in mind safety, efficiency, collaboration, workflow, results. - And you saw me changing the values as it played. And you can absolutely do that until it sounds the way that you need it to sound. Obviously for this particular track, we didn't really need a brick wall limiter, but you can see how it works and how effective it can be. Limiters work a lot like compressors. Many times you could add one and not the other. Just make sure that if you need to remain below a certain audio level that you use a brick wall limiter just in case.
