Matching color and exposure with the Comparison View

- Once you compare two shots, Premiere Pro can actually use that information and help you quickly automatically fix color or exposure issues. Now, this auto-matching isn't necessarily perfect, but I find in most cases it's a really good start. In the previous movie, you learned about using Comparison View, this useful view that allows you to see the shot. And taking advantage of the side-by-side option here, I loaded two clips. On the right is my current shot, and on the left is the reference shot. Remember, you can use this bar here to choose the frame. Once you've done this, if you scroll down a little bit to the Color Wheel section, you'll see Match. Now you can click Apply Match. Now, if Comparison View is not active, Match is grayed out, so you need to be in Comparison View and then click Apply Match. It'll analyze the two clips, and in this case, it made some small changes. You'll notice that it made a slight shift here in the midtones and the shadows for color, and it definitely pushed the highlights up. Additionally, the midtones were brought down a little bit. If we toggle that on and off, you can see the change. And I have to admit, it did a nice job. I feel that the greens match a lot better. If I do the split here and drag through, it's almost seemless there for the forest. Now, I feel that the shot on the right is just a tad bright, so, using the basic correction, I'm going to take the exposure down. I'll click on that field, and if I hold down the Command or the Control key, I can move in small decimal increments. And just that little tiny change there really did it. All right, let's go with the side by side. And those two are a significantly better match. The ability to use the Comparison View and its powerful Match feature can really save you some time. Make sure you explore using this more and more, particularly on longer form projects where the same subjects reappear multiple times.
