- Now, if you're used to normal video production, it's very common these days to run the sound directly into the camera and keep the sound synced up with the camera source. Of course, prior to this, many folks may have started out with a sync sound workflow or DSLR. I find that ideally, we employ both approaches on a multi-camera shoot. Now, Jim, I like to get the audio going into the camera. It makes it easier to sync things up but if we can't feed the good audio, we still need reference audio. We'll talk about that with synchronization a bit more in post but what are some benefits of recording audio separately? Why do you like having a dedicated audio engineer and let him or her actually roll on audio themselves? - Well, first of all, as you might notice on a multi-camera set, there are a lot of cables everywhere.
