Refining the edit

- Once you've gone through the work of laying in your shots, you may or may not have done quite a bit of refining along the way. Some editors prefer to fine tune as they go, others like to accomplish the tasks in passes. Now this training addresses the strategy of taking passes. A laying the foundation pass, which we covered in the previous movie, and a refining pass, which we are going to talk about now. In this particular scene I think we've got a pretty good foundation laid, but we still need to tighten some edits and let out frames on other edits. Also, as we know, right now we've got a lot of straight cuts, so we'll need to add plenty of L cuts and J cuts to appropriately vary our visual rhythm. And of course, we will be inserting lots of cutaways for each of these characters, even more than the previous scene because there is quite a bit of nonverbal information that we really need to convey. Alright, so just as with the last scene, I'm going to tackle adding my cutaways first…
