Removal of OpenCL and CUDA on Mac
- [Narrator] There's another change of preferences that you should be familiar with on a Mac. And that's that the OpenCL and CUDA support formats have been removed from the Mercury Playback engine. Remember, the Mercury Playback engine is what drives the realtime performance of your computer. You can choose to rely upon a GPU, the graphics processing unit, or software only. On a Mac, these two changes have been happening over time. CUDA is a format supported by Nvidia and this works just fine still on the PC side, if you're using an Nvidia graphics card. Nvidia's well known for powerful GPUs. OpenCL is also another format of graphics acceleration. However, Apple continues to deprecate these and remove support at the operating system level. So, unfortunately, while I will prefer to use CUDA, I can't on a Mac. Instead, I have to go with the system default, which is Metal. So, OpenCL and CUDA are removed as render choices on…
