- Let's tackle one of the worst pieces of green screen footage I ever had to key. Now, I'm going to show you just how far After Effects can go and I want you to think a little bit differently. Sometimes, people try to solve a problem in one pass, but what we can actually do is get a little bit more creative here. By separating the matte from the footage, we can control things with greater precision. Let's open up this comp here called Bad Key. And I'm going to just drop in a new background behind it of a theater. And the footage is a little bit pixelated on purpose to hide the subject here. Now what I want to do is remove the background footage. And this is not that hard to do. You might be thinking, "That doesn't look "like a green screen." Well, the people who shot this green screen unfortunately forgot to turn on the background lights. You see, when you light a green screen, you're really lighting two things.
