- Depending upon the type of environment you're used to working in, time code may be something that's a part of your world or completely new. A lot of people with more traditional video backgrounds grew up with time code. We used it when we were editing. We used it on set. Other people who are more of the DSLR generation have no idea. Jim, what is time code first off, before we talk about its importance on a multi-camera shoot. - Well, time code is really the smallest measurement of a piece of visual imagery, a frame of film, a frame of video. It's the building block, right. There's a number assigned to each one of those little frames and if you can match that up, the picture with the sound or the picture with three other pictures, ideally you're going to all be matched and if you picked that number on a clock somewhere in your notes, you know that no matter what piece of imagery you come up with from either camera or audio is going to be the same place in that moment in time you were…
