Type terms 101
- [Male speaker] So the first thing that we should look at when we talk about type terms 101 is the difference between a typeface and a font. They used to be separate things, and now they are often used interchangeably. What you should note is that typeface is a family of fonts. And just below here are a series of different typefaces that have have multiple fonts contained within them. So, when we talk about a font, this actually only used to apply to different sizes of a typeface. But now we can say it's the variation of weights within a typeface, or it could be also referred to as styles. So as an example here, here is Playfair Display. In three different fonts, we have the regular, bold, as well as the black. So, this is a good thing to differentiate between typeface and font, as we start to talk about type terms.
