- [Instructor] Continuing our exploration of type terminology, one thing that we also wanna be aware of is line spacing, which in some video-editing applications and motion graphic applications is referred to as leading. And this is the measurement from baseline to baseline between lines of texts. Why this is important is in certain cases, we don't want the ascenders of certain text characters to run into the ascenders of others or the cap height of others. We want our text to be legible. Another thing that we wanna keep in mind is with the word leading. This comes from the old days of printing where they physically took a piece of lead that had a particular weight to it in order to create a certain amount of line spacing between lines of text. Next what we wanna do is look at tracking, and this refers to the overall character spacing between a line of text.
