- More and more broadcasters are accepting digital delivery of programs for air. This means you're sending an actual file and we can create those files out of Adobe Media Encoder. Let's take a look at some of the core concepts involved in this process. Generally when we talk about transcoding we're talking about changing format without losing quality. That's opposed to encoding where we're generally reducing quality through compression in order to make a smaller file. Common codecs for this type of delivery include ProRes, Cineform and DNxHD. There's also different wrappers or sometimes called containers including MXF, which is increasingly common and Quick Time. When you're delivering for broadcast it's always a good idea to get the specific requirements of that broadcaster and then you wanna follow those instructions to a tee.
